My iPod loves me ('cause I feed him)
Since so many Voxers answered my last post (Hey Richard!), today I'm going to rant about the so called new music...
On my way to work today, I had my iPod pumping out the Klaxons. I mean, they are good, it's a good album. Nothing more! It's like Arctic Monkeys + Bloc Party, aren't they? Let's see how they look like in photos... [Goes to Google] Oh, god. That's them. Bloody Kids who can't dress. See for yourself! Well, I shouldn't be mean, I really do enjoy their sound, I'll listen to them some more :)
Then I tried LCD soundsystem... But I was not in the mood so I gave up after three songs and switched to Tv on the radio, their first amazing album, so deep, dark and emotional.
And I'm also listening to the new Arcade Fire (brilliant), Clap Your Hands Say Yeah (brilliant, love his voice), this Jason Collett guy (nice), the album from Mika (shit), and Year Zero by Nine Inch Nails (disappointing).
What's happening? It seems nowadays you don't need to know how to play an instrument to be in a band, you just need to keep one single chord straight for three minutes while your singer is explaining how his days are boring and depressing and he's in love with someone who's clearly fucking with someone else. What's happening guys! Is this the best we can do?
Comments
there are also some good new acts out right now, but i don't know if you'll dig them as it seems you're more into your guitar based music. anyway, the last album i purchased that really impressed me was gnarls barkley's, but hey what the fuck do i know, i still listen to prince's albums from the 80s.
take care dude, and stay muddy.
I'll try Gnarls Barkley, though I've been pushed away from that record 'cause I heard the single too many fucking times, it was everywhere!
I know there is good music around, my favourite band is Sigur Ros and they are not really guitar driven :)
See you mate!
Oh my... The Beatles! Bless them. You know It's not that I think there's nothing good, it's just that I struggle to find a well played album and it's a shame. I do enjoy these tribal-like guitar rhytms but now every single band is playing like that. Take "The Bravery" for example, I got their name because my local disco played "My favourite mistake" and I enjoyed that track, so I downl... Bought the album and now I can say that: the singer can't sing, that's why is voice either constantly distorted or digitally corrected (auto-tuner anyone?), they have an arrogant attitude judging by their videos and they are trying to be considered in the league of bands like Interpol - Editors - Etc but they don't have any ideas. And it's full of bands just like them!
BUT
There's a bright side with great bands like Sigur Ros, Arcade Fire, Bloc Party, Interpol, Clap your hands say yeah, The Strokes, Tv on the radio... So there's hope for music after all.
